Description

The galaxy NGC 6946 is referred to as The Fireworks Galaxy, due to three of the oldest supernovas that were ever detected in X-rays by NASA’s Chandra X-ray observatory.  NGC 6946 is a face-on spiral galaxy that lies 25.2 million light-years from our planet.

The Fireworks Galaxy is in the constellation Cepheus and Cygnus and with an apparent magnitude of 9.6, bright enough to be imaged in Bortle scale 7 skies.
